Student organizations and other affinity groups for ethnic populations
- Boston University School of Public Health. Students of Color for Public Health (SCPH) seeks to foster an enriched and supportive educational experience for all students, staff, faculty and community members. SCPH collaborates with diverse groups, especially those with an interest in health disparities and inequities, in order to promote an inclusive and justice oriented learning environment that utilizes the social ecological model to understand the impact of social determinants of health on individual, interpersonal, community and institutional levels. In addition, SCPH serves to build solidarity among the students of color through constructive conversations that assist students to be effective change agents in their respective communities. - George Washington University School of Public Health. Black Public Health Student Network (BPHSN) seeks to cultivate leaders able to operate with excellence in serving the community. By seeking connections with counterparts at The Milken Institute BPHSN strives contribute to success at GWU while also focusing on the development of BPHSN members. BPHSN seeks to intertwine classroom experience with the real-world issues, in order to make lasting change in the community and produce great leaders in the field of public health. - Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Society of Young Black Public Health Professionals (SYBPHP) began in 2002 as an association dedicated to raising awareness for pertinent health issues affecting minorities on both a global and community level. The Society maintains a professional network for all members, alumni, faculty, and Tulane undergraduate students to foster a positive enduring image of the Tulane community through local outreach projects, fundraising, attendance at national health conferences, volunteerism, and overall helping to better serve the community where we gain our education. - University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health. MultiCultural Student Organization (MCO) is an important vehicle for SPH students to advocate for the continuation and creation of programs, courses and activities that truly increase diversity at our school, and that effectively prepare us to address issues of diverse, underserved communities. - UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Students of Color for Public Health (SCPH) was formed to strengthen the social support, career networking, and advocacy efforts for School students and alumni of color. Founded in 2001, SCPH provides opportunities for students across departments to express public health interests and also discuss health issues of concern to populations of color. SCPH contributes to efforts to improve the recruitment, retention, and graduation of students of color, while maintaining ongoing involvement with alumni and community service organizations. - University of Michigan School of Public Health. Public Health Students of African Descent (PHSAD) is the oldest sponsored student organization in the School. PHSAD membership includes both undergraduate and graduate students. PHSAD strives to create and foster a sense of community for students of African descent in the School. Email: umsphphsad@umich.edu.
- UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health Minority Student Caucus (MSC) advocates for issues of concern to students of color in the School and promotes research and programs aimed at addressing public health issues that affect people of color. Membership is open to all students of color in the School and anyone else who is interested in supporting the Caucus’ mission. The Caucus launched its annual Minority Health Conference in 1977. - University of Illinois (UIC), Chicago School of Public Health. Minority Students for the Advancement of Public Health (MSAPH) is a student organization that seeks to strengthen the underrepresented student graduate experience by providing opportunities to build supportive networks and social bonding within the UIC community. Students of Color for Public Health (SCPH) is an undergraduate-led student organization dedicated to providing a space for students of color interested in public health.
